Bloodsport - Bags of Action Episode 28

This is Bags of Action. The podcast is devoted to action movies, both old and new, but all of them awesome! In this episode, Pete chooses one of old favourites, a film he has seen dozens of times, Bloodsport from 1988 starring JCVD. But will it stand up to the test of time? And what will Steve think, having not seen it in many, many years?

This episode was supposed to be Creed but unfortunately it doesn't come out in the UK until January, so we hope to do it for our Jan or Feb episode.

Rocky - Bags of Action Episode 27

This is Bags of Action. The podcast is devoted to action movies, both old and new, but all of them awesome! In this episode, Steve is back and is joined by his co-host from Comic Book Outsiders, Scott! This is another science experiment episode as Scott has never seen the film we're discussing this episode, the 1976 classic, Rocky. Scott ha s seen other Rocky films in the franchise, including Rocky Balboa, but never the original.

The screenplay for Rocky, written by Stallone, went on to win three Oscars and it spawned multiple sequels of different quality, which seemingly wrapped up the franchise with Rocky Balboa in 2006. Or so we thought, until this year in November, there is a potential sequel or spin-off, called Creed.
We discuss Scott's impressions of Rocky and how he thought the franchise would develop, as well as the other films plus out thoughts on Creed. Most of the episode though is focused on the original Rocky.

Cobra - Bags of Action Episode 26

This is Bags of Action. The podcast is devoted to action movies, both old and new, but all of them awesome! In this episode, Steve returns and together with Pete they discuss the 1986 Stallone movie, Cobra.
Steve has never seen this film before, but Pete is a veteran, having now seen it three times. The film was adapted from a novel and the screenplay written by Stallone. There are quite a few familiar faces in this film, including Brigitte Nielson, in an early role, Andrew Robinson, and Brian Thompson, the man who has been in practically every SFF film and TV show from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, to Alien Nation, to Star Trek, to The Terminator, to Charmed to The X-Files.

Aliens - Bags of Action Episode 25

This is Bags of Action. The podcast is devoted to action movies, both old and new, but all of them awesome! In this episode, Scott Grandison (Comic Book Outsiders, Crash Landing) is standing in for Steve to talk about the James Cameron classic, Aliens.

Shockingly Pete has never seen it before, so you get to find out what he thought of it first time around and compare that to Scott's opinion of a film he knows inside and out. Next month Steve returns to the hot seat and he'll also be experiencing a film that most people would assume he's already seen. Listen to the end of the show to find out what that is.

Kung Fury and Predator: Dark Ages - Bags of Action Episode 24

This is Bags of Action. The podcast is devoted to action movies, both old and new, but all of them awesome! In this episode, Gavin Jones (Sidekickcast) is standing in for Steve for a fan film special.

Pete and Gav discuss Predator: Dark Ages and Kung Fury, two recently crowd funded films that are now available on youtube. Each film is about thirty minutes long and the guys decided to rewatch them as they recorded the show together and in person, which gives the episode a somewhat unusual feel. How do these shorter, labour of loves compare to bigger full length films?

Listen out for a shock revelation from Pete about a film he's never seen, he'll be rectifying that next month for the good of the show!

Salt - Bags of Action Episode 23

This is Bags of Action. The podcast is devoted to action movies, both old and new, but all of them awesome! In this episode, we discuss the 2010 film Salt, starring Angelina Jolie.

This is the second time both Steve and Pete have watched the film but they've both forgotten various bits so there are surprises along the way for them. The film also stars Liev Shreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor and even a brief appearance by the awesome Andre Braugher.

For the next couple of episodes there's going to be a bit of a change to the show, but you will have to listen for the details, but we will be continuing on our regular monthly schedule.

John Wick - Bags of Action Episode 22

This is Bags of Action. The podcast is devoted to action movies, both old and new, but all of them awesome! In this episode, we do something different, both hosts went to the cinema and saw a modern movie, John Wick.

Steve and Pete saw the 2015 film in different locations in the UK so they spend the whole of this episode trying to recall parts of the film while they discuss the plot. The film has a big cast of well known stars including Keanu Reeves, Bridget Moynahan, Willem Defoe, Adrienne Palicki, Daniel Bernhardt, Alfie Allen, Lance Reddick, Clarke Peters and the always brilliant Ian McShane, Lovejoy himself.

There are lots of great little moments and small scenes from well known actors such as John Leguizamo and former WWE wrestler, Kevin Nash, which transform this film from what could have been a straight to DVD action film. The cast, the tight script and the remarkable action scenes make it a very interesting film to discuss.

At the end of the episode we discuss the plans for a sequel which has already been announced. We also talk about our next choice of film as we step away from the trilogies for a while.

Bags of Action Episode 21 - Tango and Cash

This is Bags of Action. The podcast is devoted to action movies, both old and new, but all of them awesome! In this episode, part three of our trilogy devoted to Kurt Russell, we talk about the 1989 film, Tango and Cash. This film has two big stars in leading roles, Sly Stallone and Russell, with Stallone playing almost against type as he is the suade, rich, well-dressed and well-spoken Ray Tango, vs Gabriel Cash, played by Kurt Russell who is rough, smelly, lives in a crappy apartment and yet is an equally good cop in LA.

This episode could almost have been called Bags of Misery as we total up an impressive number of actors who have since passed away. The film also stars, Jack Palance, as the main shadowy, suspicious bad guy as he chews the scenery. There is also a very young Teri Hatcher, a To Wong Fu moment in the film and as the film progresses we start to realise that Pete watched a different version to Steve.
At the end of the episode we announce what we're doing next, which is a change from the norm as we're coming up to date and doing something very new, something still at the cinema. Listen to the episode to find out more.

Bags of Action Episode 20 - Escape from New York

This is Bags of Action. The podcast is devoted to action movies, both old and new, but all of them awesome! In this episode, part two of our trilogy devoted to Kurt Russell, we talk about another John Carpenter film, the action classic from 1981, Escape from New York. Russell plays the legendary character, Snake Pliskin, who became a cult figure and eventually Russell reunited with Carpenter for the sequel.

In this film Carpenter has again not only directed the film but given it his own unique stamp, scoring the music as well. There is also a long list of very famous names in this film from Ernest Borgnine to Harry Dean Stanton, Adrienne Barbeau to Donald Pleasence playing the President of the United States.

At the end of the episode we announce what the third film in our Russellology is going to be.
Also mentioned in the podcast this episode was Archie vs. Predator comic. More info is available here.

Bags of Action Episode 19 - Big Trouble in Little China

This is Bags of Action. The podcast is devoted to action movies, both old and new, but all of them awesome! In this episode, the first part of our trilogy devoted to Kurt Russell, we talk about the cult classic, Big Trouble in Little China. This film was directed by John Carpenter who many know from such films as The Fog and the original Halloween that spawned a massive franchise. He has also written many screenplays and he composed much of the music for many films.

Big Trouble in Little China has a lot of weirdness in it which we talk about as well first impressions as this is Pete's first time seeing the film. It has lots of martial arts, magic, special effects and a plot that goes all over the place.

At the end of the episode announce what the second film in our Russellology is going to be as well.
